Aaron Harry Gorson (1)
Aaron Harry Gorson was born on 2 June 1872 in Kovno, Lithuania. In 1888, when he was just 16, he emigrated from Lithuania and travelled to Philadelphia, USA. In 1894-1896 and 1897-1898, Gorson studied painting with Thomas Anshutz at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Later, in 1900, Gorson studied at the the École des Beaux-Arts, the Académie Julian and Académie Colarossi. Gorson exhibited paintings at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1902. In 1921, he moved to New York City where he lived until his death on 11 October 1933 Aaron Harry Gorson's paintings are exhibited in a number of Art Galleries, including the the Newark Museum, Pennsylvania State University Art Gallery, Kresge Art Museum, the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Worcester Art Museum, the Heckscher Museum of Art and the Westmoreland Museum of American Art. Albert Bierstadt Biography
Born in Solingen, Germany , Albert Bierstadt (January 7, 1830 – February 18, 1902) emigrated to New Bedford, Massachusetts a year after his birth. When he was 23, he returned to Germany and studied painting at the Dusseldorf School of Painting from 1853 to 1857. Andreas Achenbach and Carl Friedrich Lessing inspired his realistic style of precise brushstrokes and romanticised, panoramic landscapes. (Other US artists also studied in Dusseldorf at the same time including Sanford Gifford, Worthington Whittredge and Carl Wimar.)
